When it comes to cooking, it’s crucial to take into account that everybody else started somewhere. I do not know of one person who was born with a wooden cooking spoon and ready to go. There is a lot of learning that must be completed in order to become a prolific cook and then there is always room for improvement. Not only would you need to start with the basics when it comes to cooking however, you almost must start if learning to cook a brand new cuisine such as Chinese, Chinese, Thai, or Indian food.
This means that at any given time on your cooking cycle cycles there is quite probably someone somewhere that’s better and/or worse in cooking more than you. Take heart from this because the best have bad days when it comes to cooking. There are a number of people who cook for different factors. Some cook as a way to eat and survive while others cook since they actually like the process of ingestion. Some cook during times of emotional upheaval among others cook out of utter boredom. No matter your reason behind cooking or learning to cook you should begin with the fundamentals.
Yet another excellent little bit of advice in regards to cooking basics is to use simpler recipes for a while and then expand your own horizons to the more complex recipes that abound. Most recipes will have a little note in their degree of difficulty also you can go the recipe to see whether it is something you are thinking about preparing or certain that you can prepare. Remember Rome was not built in a time and it’ll take a relatively good time to build a reliable’repertoire’ of recipes to work into your meal preparation rotation.
You will also find as your experience and confidence grows that you will see your self more and more usually improvising when you move and adjusting recipes to fulfill your personal preferences. If you prefer less or more of ingredients or would like to create a recipe a little more or less spicy in flavor you can make simple adjustments on the way so as to attain this objective. Put simply you will start punctually to create recipes of your individual. And that is something you won’t of necessity learn when it has to do with basic cooking skills for novices however you would never know if you didn’t master those basic cooking skills.

Instructions to make Kitkat/M&M Vanilla Birthday Cake 6”:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease three 6×2 inch cake pans, line with parchment paper, then grease the parchment paper. Parchment paper helps the small cakes seamlessly release from the pans.
- Make the cake: Whisk the cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. Set aside.
- Using a handheld/stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the butter on high speed until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute. Add the sugar and beat on high speed for 2 minutes until creamed together. Scrape down the sides and up the bottom of the bowl with a rubber spatula as needed. Add the egg whites and vanilla extract.
- Beat on medium-high speed until combined, then beat in the sour cream. Scrape down the sides and up the bottom of the bowl as needed. With the mixer on low speed, add the dry ingredients until just incorporated. With the mixer still running on low, slowly pour in the milk until combined. Do not over-mix. You may need to whisk it all by hand to make sure there are no lumps at the bottom of the bowl. The batter will be slightly thick.
- Pour batter evenly into cake pans. Bake for around 18-21 minutes or until the cakes are baked through. To test for doneness, insert a toothpick into the center of the cake. If it comes out clean, it’s done. Allow cakes to cool completely in the pans set on a wire rack. The cakes must be completely cool before frosting and assembling
- Make the frosting: With a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium speed until creamy, about 2 minutes. Add 4 and 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar, the heavy cream, and vanilla extract.
- Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then increase to medium-high speed and beat for 2 full minutes. Add up to 1/2 cup more confectioners’ sugar if frosting is too thin or another Tablespoon of cream if frosting is too thick. Add a pinch of salt if frosting is too sweet. (I add 1/8 teaspoon salt.)
- Decorate the cake: make sure cake is cooled completely before start decorating otherwise buttercream will melt. Spread buttercream in each layer of the cake, on top of the cake and around the cake. Decorate with kitkat, m&m and colourful rice.
